Headline : India,Nepal : CENTRE declares Visakhapatnam port as the second port for Nepal's exim cargo
Summary : Visakhapatnam port has been declared by the Centre as the second gateway port for exim cargo of Nepal in addition to Kolkata/Haldia, states the Visakhapatnam port trust (VPT).

An inland container depot (ICD) located at Birgunz in Nepal is connected by rail to Raxoul station in India and the north and south highways in Nepal are also connected to India, serving the exim trade. India and Nepal have recently inked the agreement.

Transportation of Exim cargo will be carried out from Jogbani or Birgunz in Nepal by rail or through four road routes. The cargo which will be in sealed containers, will be in full rake only.

A team headed by Dr. Somlal Subedi, the Chief Secretary of Nepal, will visit Visakhapatnam port for two days later during this week to study the facilities available at the Vizag port and to interact with the stakeholders.

According to Visakhapatnam port chairman M.T Krishnababu, this historic move would boost trade relations between the two countries and also help the Visakhapatnam port and Nepal. "Vizag will be the ideal gateway port for exim cargo from Nepal," he said.
