Summary : The Indian Shipping Ministry has announced that the Goa-based Murmagao Port has been successful to record a huge growth of 46% in cargo handling in June 2016 over the same period in last year.

The port facility has handled cargo of 1.7 million t in June 2016 in comparison with the year-ago periods figure of 1.2 million t.

Murmagao Port has handled 8.5 million t cargo during the first quarter of this fiscal year (April June period of FY2016-17), registering an exciting annual growth of 104%, according to the Indian Ministry of Shipping.

The Ministry has revealed that the growth has been bolstered by a momentous increase in the exports of iron ore and imports of coal during the first three months of this fiscal.

The Goa-based port has also registered a 31% year-on-year growth in the container traffic.
